SCHOOL-BASED MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Supporting the Whole Child—Mind, Emotions, and Learning

Mental health plays a vital role in a student’s ability to learn, connect, and thrive. School-based mental health services are designed to provide early, accessible, and effective support for children and teens—right where they spend most of their time: at school.

At Dr. Brinson’s office, we work hand-in-hand with schools, families, and community programs across Florida to deliver assessments and counseling that complement and strengthen these school-based services. Whether a student needs an evaluation, follow-up therapy, or a tailored plan for success, we are here to support their growth—mind, body, and spirit.

What Are School-Based Mental Health Services?

Overview

School-based mental health services are a range of supports provided on school campuses to address students’ emotional, behavioral, and psychological needs. According to the National Center for School Mental Health, these services can include:

Prevention and Early Intervention

Identifying potential concerns—such as anxiety, depression, attention issues, or trauma responses—before they become more serious. Early intervention can dramatically improve a student’s academic performance and emotional well-being.

Individualized and Group Counseling

Many students benefit from one-on-one therapy, while others find strength in peer-based group counseling. These sessions help with emotional regulation, social skills, trauma healing, and building resilience.

Crisis Intervention

In moments of immediate need—such as the death of a classmate, a natural disaster, or a personal crisis—school mental health professionals provide short-term support and triage services. The American Psychological Association highlights the importance of trained professionals being available in real time during these critical events.

Case Management and Referrals

School-based services often extend beyond the classroom. Case managers and psychologists help connect students and their families with outside providers—like Dr. Brinson’s office—for longer-term care, psychological evaluations, or specialized therapies.

Collaborative Care

True healing happens when families, educators, and mental health providers work together. We believe in holistic care that bridges school-based efforts with private practice expertise to ensure that no child falls through the cracks.

MENTAL HEALTH IN FLORIDA SCHOOLS

For the past 5 years PsychEd Solutions, P.A. has successfully provided mental health counseling, crisis intervention and psycho-educational evaluations at a number of private and charter schools throughout the school districts of Dade and Broward! Why is this so important for you to know?

  • COMPLIANCE! Your school’s deadline for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act Mental Health Plan (MHAA Plan) is fast approaching! Our programming fulfills the district’s requirements and ensures that your school is in compliance!

  • RESEARCH & EVIDENCED BASED! Our expert staff utilizes the RESEARCHED BASED Social & Emotional Learning model with students from Pre-K to 12th grade. We also incorporate mindfulness activities that are proven to increase self-regulation and decrease negative behaviors. Also, our licensed school psychologists are able to complete psycho-educational evaluations with INDIVIDUALIZED and EVIDENCED BASED recommendations that promote academic success!

  • FREE! Most importantly, we are able to provide many of these services at NO COST to the school!

How We Partner with Schools

At Dr. Brinson’s office, we are proud to support school systems across Florida, including Miami-Dade County Public Schools and private institutions. Our services include:

  • Psychological evaluations for learning, behavioral, or emotional concerns

  • Mental health therapy aligned with school goals or IEP/504 accommodations

  • Participation in school referral systems or response-to-intervention (RTI) plans

  • Communication with school counselors, ESE staff, or administrators when permitted by families

We understand the unique pressures that educators face—and the needs students bring into the classroom each day. Whether we’re supporting a student recovering from trauma, clarifying a diagnosis for academic accommodations, or providing counseling during a difficult transition, our role is to enhance what’s already happening on campus.
